Hi everybody! Welcome to the 2021 COVID-19 version of the Sandy Beach Tennis Club.

The City of Pickering has authorized us to operate the club according to the COVID-19 protocols they have laid out, which also follow requirements of the Durham Region Health Department to safeguard the health of our members.

Latest update (as of June 11, 2021)

Only club members are permitted on the courts. Our members must agree to comply in the 3 categories of 1) physical distancing, 2) hygiene and 3) contact tracing.

1) Physical Distancing

Singles play and doubles play are both allowed. Maintain a distance of 2 metres (unless same family). Players waiting for a court must wait away from the entrance area, maintaining physical distancing. Handshakes, high-fives and elbow taps are not permitted — only a simple thumbs up from a distance.

2) Hygiene

Players must bring their own hand washing equipment — either hand sanitizer or a water bottle containing soapy water. They must wash their hands in the handwashing area, near the court entrance, before playing — and especialy before and after for those who open the court entry lock.

Players must strive not to touch court fixtures (eg. fence, nets, etc.) — after hand sanitizing.

Each participant is expected to bring a maximum of 3 tennis balls, which must be uniquely marked so that, for example, Player A would pick up by hand only the tennis balls that are assigned to him, and Player B picks up by hand only the tennis balls assigned to her when they are playing together. This applies to serving in doubles as well. When returning balls to a partner, or if balls travel to another court, players must return them using only their racquet – never their hands. In the case of a singles lesson, only the Club Pro handles the tennis balls.

Washrooms facilities are now available. There will not be a garbage can or recycling bin at the club. So whatever you bring, you must leave with. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue (which you should leave in your tennis bag) and wash your hands. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm. Stay at home when you are ill. You will be asked to leave if you are exhibiting COVID-19-related symptoms.

In the case of failure to adhere with the COVID-19 requirements the Club Executive will have you leave — with possible dismissal from SBTC and no refund of membership fees.

3) Contact Tracing  Updated

Each member must agree that their address and phone number can be given to the City of Pickering and/or the Durham Region Health Department to aid in contact tracing.

For Durham Dept. of Health requirements under COVID-19, all play on the court must be tracked. Each member must email their court participation to within one hour after their playing time. You must state the date, court number, time in, time out, and first and last name of each player. Failure to do so could result in dismissal from SBTC with no refund.
